DIY: Fabric Baskets to Organize your Chaos, e.g. in Draws
Even after 10 years, I’m still in love with my Hemnes, Ikea’s finest chest of drawers. Except at 8 o’clock, when I’m already running late and desperately trying to find the matching pants to my chosen bra of the day. After 10 years, it was time I do something about it.
Step 1 – Using the pattern, draw and cut 4 times – 2 times out of sturdy, washable PVC for the outside and 2 times for the lining. I’ve recycled an old tablecloth with strawberry print as well as upcycled some of his old Shirts.
Step 2 – Right sides together, sew along the sides and bottom. Leave the top and 2 bottom corners open.
Step 3 – Fold the fabric and sew across the bottom corners. Avoid using pin needles as it leaves nasty marks in the PVC. Instead try plastic paperclips.
Step 4 – Copy step 1-3 for the lining. Turn the PVC basket outside in.
Step 5 – Put the PVC basket inside the lining. Ensure that right sides are facing each other, and seams are alined. Sew along the top, leaving a gap of appr. 5 cm open.
Step 6 – Using the opening gap, pull the PVC basket outside. Stitch the opening Close.
|And here’s an Before & After shot of my drawer. 1st Trial run’s completed, too. Unlike the last 10 years, I’ve immediately found the matching Pants to today’s bra. Heureka!|
